First steps

So today I decided to leap into the unknown world of gardening to attempt to regain control. I thought baby steps was the way forward, I'm so glad I did because I now ache, lots.

Today's mission was to the pots by the front door.

I found more than 15 pots of weeds and dead snails decorating the front of my house, what a start. I discovered emptying pots more difficult than I had imagined, one dead shrub had what can only be described as roots of steel. Finally after several pain filled hours, i was the proud owner of some empty pots, needless to say come lunch time I was feeling slightly unenthusiastic.

Having had lunch I was picking up my magazines when I found my mum's copy of Grow Your Own, reading was a good excuse to take a break from tidying up and after half an hour I was pleasantly surprised that I was planning the perfect garden again.

This time I headed out armed with compost and seeds and some bedding plants that the garden centre staff assured me could grow in pots. After consulting with my mum and grandma I was informed that some of the "weeds" I had were actually plants that I should keep.

Having rescued the plants from the weeds in my pots I filled the pots with either seeds or bedding plants. The pots that were empty were refilled with compost and then sowed with seeds or bedding plants or a mixture of the two. I even managed to plant some vegetable seeds in a trough and some onions that I found sprouting in the kitchen. I have no idea if they will grow but it used up another pot.

The end result is a smart start in the right direction, photos to uploaded when I have the energy to go and fetch the camera.

The Horror

During a moment of sheer stupidity I recently fell down the stairs. The plus point is that I can't go to work, the down side is that I actually stopped to look out of the window into the garden. I'm not sure I can still call it a garden, more like my very own wilderness. The garden used to be a beautiful mixture of flowers, fruit and vegetables but still TIDY!!! I guess that's what happens when you have Grandparent's who like to help out. As you can see from the photos it looks more like a clearing in a forest than a garden much to my horror.
